The Argungun  festival is an annual event in Kebbi state Nigeria. The festival began in 1934 ,it was used to mark the end of centuries old hostilities between Sokoto caliphate and kebbi kingdom. the Argungun festival last for four days and on the final day of the festival a competition is held and thousands of men and women line up along the river and at the sound of a gunshot everyone jumps into the river ,they are given an hour to catch the largest fish, the person who catches the largest fish emerges the winner and takes home the prize money. The competitors are allowed to use traditional fishing tools but many prefer to catch the fish entirely by hand to demonstrate their prowess

Argungun  festival is one of the most popular festivals in Nigeria and attracts tourist all over the world has proven to be economically beneficial.
